Mobile Technologies

The intent of the Mobile Technologies Knowledge Unit is to provide students with an understanding of the hardware, communications, management and programming environments associated with mobile technologies.

Topics

  1. Describe how a mobile device maintains connectivity to the network while in motion, to include how infrastructure nodes handle passing the mobile device from one node to the next.
  2. Outline how mobile systems function to allow secure voice and data access.
  3. 2G -> 3G -> 4G / LTE -> 5G
  4. Standards Heritage
  5. Core Architecture Evolution
  6. Design Choices
  7. Mobile Use of SS7
  8. RRC Signaling
  9. 2G -> 3G -> 4G / LTE -> 5G a. Standards Heritage b. Core Architecture Evolution

Outcomes

  1. Outline how mobile systems function to allow secure voice and data access.
  2. Describe how a mobile device maintains connectivity to the network while in motion, to include how infrastructure nodes handle passing the mobile device from one node to the next.
